Romeo Hunte brings in "New Waves" to NYFW

Romeo Hunte SS19 Collection, shot by Mark C.

On Sunday afternoon, Romeo Hunte brings back Scuba-chic with his Women's SS2019 Collection to Pier59 Studios. The runway consisted of three aisles through the audience with the models coming down the far right aisle and crossing over the center to come back down the far left. With music by self-proclaimed DJ Parker Radcliffe, two Black models grace the runway in Check Reversible Nylon Ponchos with one wearing a Black wetsuit and the other wearing a Black one-piece swimsuit; both styled in neon-colored strapped open toed heels provided by Chinese Laundry. For this season, the designer aimed to "explore the intersection between Street and Luxe." Gotta nice ring to it!

His attempts on intersecting these two contrasted styles was evident in his use of mesh and mink on trench coats (Look 16 above), styling Mink Jackets with Lycra/Cotton Jumpsuits, pairing Blazers and Jackets with his signature SPECS Swarovski Crystallized French Terry Pullovers and using neon colored piping details on an array of pieces. You can see the looks from the collection below:

The show closed with the designer entering the runway making a forearm 'victory' gesture, which can be assumed as a personal celebratory gesture to a successful and seamless show. Congratulations, Romeo Hunte, on a job well done! Can't wait to see these new waves hit the streets of New York City!
